A full-album vinyl listening session of ‘De Mayagüez’, with Henry Cole in the room as host.
Latin Grammy-winning drummer, composer and bandleader from Mayagüez, Cole has anchored Miguel Zenón’s quartet for more than twenty years and leads his own Villa Locura. ‘De Mayagüez’ (2025) is his third album as a leader and the first to take his hometown as its foundation.
Recorded in 2015 at Electric Lady Studios, the studio Jimi Hendrix founded in Greenwich Village, the album brings together Andy Montañez, Tito Allen, Tego Calderón and Cristy Mangual, among others, and lets bomba and the rhythms of Puerto Rico’s west coast drive modern composition and improvisation. “It truly joins my childhood, my roots, my family, my place of origin, with the person I have become since I decided to leave,” Cole says.
The album is available directly from Henry: double vinyl or digital download.
Afternoon Session: Doors 4:30pm, session begins 5:00pm.
